Persephone is the daughter of Zeus and the harvest goddess Demeter, and is the queen of the underworld. Described as the formidable, venerable majestic queen of the underworld, who carries into effect the curses of men upon the souls of the dead. Persephone was abducted by Hades, the god-king of the underworld, and she ate the seeds of the pomegranate Hades had given her - tying her to him forever. She is associated with spring as well as the fertility of vegetation, as upon her return to the world above she’d bring with her the start of spring and vegetation of the plants for harvest.
